Health Facts

While reading this newspaper this Tuesday morning, I came across a few health tidbits I found interesting. Here are some of my favorites:

Body of Knowledge: In a lifetime, the average American will consume 60,000 pounds of food, or the weight of 6 elephants.
- To be honest, I actually thought we ate quite a bit more...

Phobia of the Week: Didaskaleinophobia - fear of going to school

How Healthy are Avocados?

- Hass, is the most common avocado, characterized as black with bumpy skin
- Of the 240 calories in 150 grams (1 cup) of avocados, 184 of those calories come from fat
- Of the 22 grams of fat in an avocado, 14.7 grams are considered the "heart-healthy" monounsaturated fat
- The avocado contains more potassium than a medium banana
- Four ounces of guacamole from Chipotle contains 370 milligrams of sodium which is 15% of your daily allowance
