New from Burton

I know it's only August, in fact it's still in the mid-70s, but that doesn't mean I'm not excited for fleece and mitten weather! Coincidentally Burton is too! Their new goodies are online and ready to savor over. Here are some pretty boards that I definitely would love to add my collection:

And some oober cute jackets...

TEXAS FOOTBALL

It's almost that time of the year again... COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON!

As most know, Colt McCoy will be returning to Texas for another year even though the door to the NFL was wide open.

And his reasoning: "I came back to win, I think we have a great chance." Read the USA Today article on him here.

Lakers Uniforms

In honor of the Lakers, here's a look back at some of their uniforms...

Trophies are Gold
The present Laker era has a home uniform that brings back the white numbers and letters, and extends the purple stripe down the side to the jerseys. Shaquille O'Neal continues the Laker tradition with three NBA titles so far.

Purple People Eaters
Some say the Lakers road uniforms of the 1980's didn't always have the jersey and shorts match the same shade of purple, but Magic Johnson didn't care, leading the L.A. to five NBA titles.

Tradition Continues
The gold has continued to be the Lakers' home uniform of choice, with a slight modification to purple numbers and letters in the 1980's. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar sky-hooked his way to the all-time points lead as a Laker.

Home Gold
In the late 60's, the Lakers moved to their now-famous colors of purple and gold, eschewing a home white jersey for the intimidating gold worn by Jerry West.

L.A. Script
Making the move to the coast, the Lakers dumped the baby blue for a darker, navy shade that Elgin Baylor wears here and proudly wrote their new home across the front of the road jerseys. These are the ones the current Lakers will be wearing on retro nights.

Land of Lakes
George Mikan lead the Minneapolis Lakers to five NBA titles before the team left for Los Angeles prior to the 1960 season. The Laker colors then were white at home and light blue with yellow trim on the road.

Pacquiao vs. Hatton

And so the fight came and went. Pacquiao knocked out Hatton in less than two rounds. All was to be expected but I still can't help feeling a little disappointed. I am a Pacquiao fan through and through but over the course of the past month as I watched the 24/7 series, I found myself rooting for Hatton if only for his trainer, Floyd Mayweather Sr. But Hatton didn't even have a chance.....Pacquiao flattened him. The footage of a disoriented Hatton on the floor of the ring is one of the most disturbing things I've seen in awhile. I witnessed brain damage moments after it happened. Yikes.

Thrilla in Manila

Recently I mentioned my latest hobby...boxing documentaries. Thrilla in Manila is HBO's latest documentary describing the infamous fights between Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali. Incredible background and peak into the emotional intensity of this historic rivalry. Although, the documentary is a little biased (coming down hard on Ali), it's still a MUST SEE.

Below is the synopisis from the official HBO Thrilla in Manila site....

"An Official Selection at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, THRILLA IN MANILA chronicles one of the bitterest sports face-offs ever, recounting a tale of personal betrayal that was stoked by the racial politics of 1970s America. Featuring archival footage and exclusive interviews with boxing insiders, including Ferdie Pacheco, Butch Lewis and Dave Wolf, as well as Imelda Marcos, former First Lady of the Philippines, the documentary tells the story of two great fighters forever linked by three epic bouts, and looks at their final fight, considered the most brutal, from Frazier's perspective for the first time.

Directed by John Dower ("Once in a Lifetime: The Extraordinary Story of The New York Cosmos"), THRILLA IN MANILA deftly tracks an extraordinary personal battle between two friends, and captures the poignant moment in the socio-cultural history of the country when they became American sports icons and legends. While Ali was a symbol of the civil rights struggle and anti-Vietnam War movement, Frazier was cast as the symbol of the pro-war, conservative segment of American society, some would say unfairly.

In 1967, Ali was stripped of his heavyweight crown after refusing induction into the armed forces. The film reveals how Frazier subsequently befriended Ali and supported the renewal of his boxing license and status, showing the intense feelings of betrayal he felt after Ali returned to the ring in 1970 and subjected him to race-baiting attacks. "

A clip from the documentary ....I apologize I couldn't find the trailer anywhere.

Pacquiao vs. Hatton 24/7

The HBO series 24/7 returns this April, this time covering the lead up to the Pacquiao/Hatton May 2nd fight. The four part series aired the first segment last Saturday night and I could never quite understand the appeal in following this sport.... until now. I encourage you to view the short trailer below and a sample of incredibly artistic Part 1 of Pacquiao/Hatton 24/7 (The making of the film is so beautiful I felt like I was watching a National Geographic doc).

2016 Olympic Logos

The Beijing Olympics have passed. Michael Phelps is still milking his fame. And the 2016 Olympic candidates have just released their logos. My vote is obviously for Brooke's home town, Chicago. One of my favorite cities in the world.

Some of the executions for Chicago are really quite stunning...
