"Before They Had Stylists"

I was reading through some old posts on one of my favorite blogs, Fashion Indie, and came across this clever tidbit on every girl's long time favorite, Strawberry Shortcake.

"Every girls childhood sweetheart has gotten a major makeover. Thankfully it was for the better.

The first step was removing her oversized hat, her stylist then straitened her dreadlocks and added extensions. Next, they widened her eyes with a little elective surgery and removed her nose. After a tummy tuck and face bleaching to remove her freckles, they gave her a new wardrobe and sent her cat Custard to the animal shelter to be turned into the perfect muff for the winter. Pretty girls carry chihuahuas."

In case you haven't seen it...

Monday Morning* Memo

Brooke and I are out of commission today. The weekend must have taken a toll on us. Either that, or just the typical Monday blues....Weekend Recap:

Brooke.. It's the end of an era... my dear friend Anthony will be moving to Chicago tomorrow. In sending him off in true William Fremd style.. we went out Friday night to Winston's. There aren't really words that can describe all that ensued but regardless, Anthony will be missed dearly. Saturday night continued the weekend with Mike, Alex and I heading over to Barney's Beanery to watch the Cubs end their season. While Alex proudly sported his White Sox hat... Mike and I represented Wrigley's finest amongst the Dodgers fans. 5+ hours later we accepted defeat and declared that next year is it, next year will be the year. I stand behind that.

Other than that, Molly and I were talking and feeling a little bit nostalgic for Austin and the our friends from college... with all the growing excitement for the big Red River Rivalry this weekend in Dallas aka the TX vs. OU game. A ton of our friends are headed to Dallas for all of the festivities that are known as OU weekend but unfortunately neither of us will be making the trek.

Festival Dates

For future 2009 planning...

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has moved up by two weeks, now scheduled for April 17-19. The event will remain at Indio, California's Empire Polo Field and acts will be announced early next year.

It also appears that the dates for 2009's Bonnaroo have been leaked. Looks like it will go down on June 11-14 in Manchester, Tennessee.

Coachella is unfortunately scheduled the same weekend as one of our best friend's weddings. We will instead be in Dallas at what I know will be one beautiful and crazy wedding weekend. Brooke and I are seriously contemplating Bonnaroo. Anyone care to rough it up with us for 4 days in a tent in good ol' Tennessee ?

One More Song To End The Weekend

I've been in a music daze lately. Every song I listen to, I've gotten totally wrapped up in. I know it's not Tuesday yet and I posted quite a few songs on Saturday but here you go. I listened to this one on repeat on my drive up from San Diego this afternoon. A great song to end a great weekend.

The Sea and Cake || "Crossing Line"

Hope the weekend went well! CHEERS :)

How gorgeous are these?

I love how artistic these engagement photos are...something out of the ordinary.

People In Planes

My friend David and I used to exchange long lists of music picks in college. We had this tedious class with a professor we could barely understand. To make it worse, we were put in a group project with 2 girls who basically shunned us from the entire thing. The only thing that really got me to class was the hopes of getting a full cd of new music to dig through. I'm still bitter about that group. People in Planes was a rec from him. Both the video and the guy singing are pretty creepy. But the song itself is beautiful.

"Falling By the Wayside"

"Pretty Buildings"

Chicago Cubs fans....

I am saddened. Loss of hope after tonight's game? Perhaps.

As described by ESPN...
29 teams have gone down 2-0 in a best-of-5 series entering 2008. Of those 29, 21 were swept, BUT 7 came back to win the series.
The Cubs have won 3 straight postseason games twice... in 1907-1908 and in 2003. I will remain hopeful.

Check out my dear friends Mike and Alex's blog http://thisisnotyourvoice.wordpress.com/ As one of the most passionate Cubs fans to have ever lived, Mike has been following the Cubs long and hard road..season to season. His enthusiasm is contagious.

(Side note: Alex's dissections of his elementary school essays as well as his review of his compliments bag are the only things that could actually bring me out of my playoff remorse. No matter how many times I reread these, I laugh out loud.)

Bucket List - Amazon

So lately, I've entertained the thought (fantasy) of trekking out into the Amazon jungle/rain forest and "getting back to nature." Therefore, I consider my recent stumble upon these ecolodges featured on DailyCandy a sign from fate. We must go. Believe it or not back in the day I went on my share of camping trips.. yes some might have been in cabins or on elevated platforms but others (one time) were the legitimate put up your own tent kind of trips. Surprising I know. Some have even gone as far to call me a modern day Henry David Thoreau.

Ohhh but friends these lodges are what I call luxury camping.... The Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica is located in the rain forest of southern Peru on the banks of the Madre de Dios River. The area is known for its efforts in sustainable tourism and biodiversity research. Upon arriving at the lodge, guests are able to customze an internierary based on individual interests and activity levels. Highlights include...jungle treks and paddles, hiking in the rain forest, treetop canopy views, plant study, bird watching, butterfly farms, a botanical garden called "Concepcion" and an overall education in nature. Sounds and looks amazing.

-Click here for more pictures. Unfortunately I wasn't able to upload them. The rooms are gorgeous! On the third page of the pictures, I can totally see myself in one of the green chairs next to the telescope learning about species of birds.
-Read an article on the Puerto Maldonado area and Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica that was featured in this April 2008 edition of Vanity Fair.

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland!

I dressed up as Alice in 7th grade for Halloween. I think all the other girls were angels and devils, in mini white and red dresses. I immediately regretted the decision after I got to school that day. But my mother had handmade my costume so I couldn't really say no. I guess Halloween became ''dress the sluttiest as possible holiday'' at an early age in my hometown. It was a classic costume though. It has been passed on endlessly since. Thanks mom :) Always keeping it classy.

Tim Burton is hard at work filming Alice in Wonderland! Currently being shot in Cornwall England, the part of Alice will be played by a young Australian actress, Mia Wasikowska. And of course, with it being it a Tim Burton film and all, Johnny Depp will be taking on the role of the Mad Hatter... perfect. The movie won't come out till 2010. Till then--
